Early riser, Nick wakes at 5:30 every morning. Mom and Dad like to sleep in til 6:30.
On Sunday Nicholas tried peanut butter, liked it, and lived to try it again, thankfully.
Currently he's enjoying all his new toys he received for his birthday.

1st Birthday Party

Nick celebrated his 1st birthday with family and friends this past Saturday. He's just like his Mommy and Daddy when it comes to parties, he likes to entertain. Nick didn't spend a lot of time with us, instead he was going around to everyone, playing with them or asking them to hold him. It was very cute!

When it came time for cake, we blew out his candle and awaited for him to dig in. Instead he was very careful and took little pinches of cake. Literally, he would pinch the frosting and put it in his mouth. I offered him bigger chunks that he ate, but went back to pinches. A little while later, I shoved his whole hand in the cake to show him, it was ok to dig in.

Breakfast in Bed

To keep the tradition my parents started, going, we gave Nick breakfast in bed on his Birthday.
We think he enjoyed it.

It was the first time he tasted syrup.

Uh Oh & 1 Year Stats

We use to think that Nicks first words would be Da da, and Ma ma, and he use to look at Lindsey turn towards me and say Da da, but then one day, he didn't say it again. Now its coming back but he's just rambling. Lately he's been really testing his voice box and saying all kinds of nonsense. Do we declare his first words now "uh oh"? He says it when things fall off his high chair and makes the cutest face. We don't say it here but I learned at day care that there is a girl his age that does. So, I guess his first word...is Uh Oh.

Nicholas went in for his 1 year check up today. His stats are as follows-
19 lbs. 3 oz
29 1/2" long
Too light to be put in his new forward facing car seat... Doc told us we have to wait another month.

Nick got to meet some of Daddy's college friends. Becky & Diana with Dylan.

We learned over the weekend that Nick loves to sweep.

He Saw His Shadow

While outside this week on a walk with Dad, Nick discovered that thing following him...then tried to pick it up but only learned his hand too, has a shadow. After a few moments he began walking forward again, while looking behind him.

Nicholas...you haven't see very many up and close photos.

He tried a lime on May 5h. He made the funniest face ever, when that happens he'll refuse to put it in his mouth again. Except he couldn't resist the lime and repeatedly put it it back in his mouth with the same reaction. We laughed. Yes he likes to chew on his matchbox cars too.

Nicholas goes to the Polzins Grandparents

For four days Nick was with Grandma and Grandpa Polzin while Mommy and Daddy were in Austin Texas for a mini vacation and wedding of a friend and fraternity brother of Dads.
Nick slept great for them, 11-12 hour overnight sleeps with no wake ups. We certain hope it continues now that he's back home. We want to thank them very much.


A story from last week. Daddy was in the basement with Nick, he was roaming around as he always does. Went over to the storage area door, slides open the door and immediately there is Dads painting easel. Nick reaches down, picks up a paint brush and then as if there was paint on his brush, he spreads the bristles across the white blank canvas. My jaw was on the floor as I was watching him pretend to paint. It lasted a good 20 seconds before he went around and pretend to paint some of his toys. It was very amazing to see considering he's never seen me or anyone paint before! I will try to get some paint for him very soon to see what he's capable of.
