During our 6 month photo shoot, I stepped away for a second only to hear a thump. Our newest gymnast did a front flip off the rocker. Dad was more shaken up than Kevin, I guess he's more mobile than we thought.
This week his teachers at day care were saying "When did this happen?" because last week the kids didn't go into school. In just the past two weeks, his two bottom front teeth have broken through, he is sitting up, crawling, and pulling himself up.
Kevin has now tried, green beans, sweet potatoes, avacado and applesauce. He loves to put his hands in his mouth when we feed him, so we have to hold them down.
Kevin is advancing sooo quickly! He turned 6 months on the 4th
of July and the very next day he decided to pull himself up. His
crawling is advancing as well he’s done some army crawling and some on
his tiptoes with his bottom up in the air. We are not sure if he just
doesn’t like to be on his knees or if he’s just experimenting with
different ways to get where he wants to go.
Friday July 29th
was a big day for the little guy his first tooth pushed through his
lower gums and he tried green beans for the first time. Since then he’s
also tried sweet potatoes and his 2nd tooth on the bottom has
come through. He seems to like the sweet potatoes a little better then
the green beans but it’s hard to tell as more of it ends up on his face,
hands, bib, etc then in his mouth!
Yesterday we went for his 6 month check up and he was such a trooper he’s 25 12" long (about the 20th percentile) and 14lbs 7oz (5th
percentile) so he’s still our little peanut. The Doctor was very
impressed with his new physical skills (most kids will start crawling
and sitting up closer to 9 months). She also commented on what a sweet
disposition and how his cry is not annoying. She kept saying he’s
perfect (we tend to agree).
We joined the Bakers day at their pool, it was Kevin's first time in a pool.
We all enjoyed a brief trip to the Arlington Heights parade with Aunt Lisa and Uncle Leigh. It was brief because it was over 100 degrees out.
Big Brother Nick –
This
is the first year we let Nick stay up for the fireworks and he wasn’t
very impressed they were too loud. His cousin Cormack felt the same way
so they sat inside and ate popcorn watching the fireworks through the
window.
Nick only lasted a short time outside before he was too scared and wanted to go in.
His
vocabulary and understanding seem to grow with each day. He told Tim
the other day that he (meaning Tim) “missed your opportunity” when helping him with a puzzle. ha!
Nick
and Kevin are now officially sharing a bedroom and Nick is doing so
good trying really hard to be quiet (not always successful) so he
doesn’t wake Kevin up.
Nick
just finished his Water Explorers class he received a report card at
the end and earned perfects in almost every category. The teacher
suggests he take the level 1 class next, we are thinking about letting
him even though the class is really for 4-7 years olds.
The
only problem with swim classes are Nick get’s to bed late and as most
of you know Nick doesn’t really get the whole sleeping-in thing!
Sunday a big storm blew into our town taking down trees and our power. From Sunday afternoon til Tuesday evening power was on and off. It made for a very interesting and busy week.
I just love Kevin's face! Here, Kevin is in his first days of sitting up while intensely listening to Nicholas reads him a story. Nick cannot really read, instead makes up a great story from the pictures on the pages.
While up on all fours, he'll lunge himself forward, gaining about an inch. Just enough to grab that toy Nick is playing with.
Also this week we began to feed him rice cereal. He did pretty good with it. Soon it will be the dreaded green beans.
Over the weekend Uncle Todd, Aunt Amanda, Cousin Max and Henry joined us for a day at the zoo.
For the next couple of weeks Nick is a taking swim class. He hasn't gone underwater yet but has gone low enough to get his nose wet.
The Puzzle Master.
Though he always ask for us to help him, he just wants us to watch him do it.
What a week! Please note if you get the blog delivered to your email, you most likely haven't see any videos.
There weren't any videos this week but will be next week.
A big thank you goes out to Grandma Polzin who watch four grandkids on Fathers day while her two sons ran the Warrior Dash-
Another big thank you goes out to Grandma Bowman who cared for a sick Kevin three days in a row. He had three days of fevers and we are still trying to figure out whats going on in his chest with all that weezing and coughing. Two trips to the doctor later, we have another call into him this morning for further instructions.
The smiles don't come as often when he's sick, but rest assure he hasn't lost them.
He's good at getting on all fours this week but from there only wants to try and sit up. He has been unsuccessful but with some help from us he's balancing very well when we sit him down.
What kid doesn't like watersports? The three musketeers enjoyed the slip-n-slide on Saturday.
It was a special Sunday last week, I was getting to finally take Nick to a White Sox game. A team I grew up watching. It was kids day so we went with Uncle Todd and Cousin Max along their friends son Brody.
His first dog at the park.
The biggest hit was the mister that rained down on the kids, it was like they were at a water park. It was in the 90's that day. Sadly Nick and Max were not able to take park in some of the activities because they were wearing sandals and crocs. Nick needed to have on his running shoes.
I went to guest relations and verified that he could run the bases. They said he could.
With a line of kids that wrapped around most of the half of the ballpark, they entered onto the field. Watch for a laugh-
I guess I need to take a day off of teaching him batting and teach him how to run the bases.
Speaking of batting, Nick has began making contact on hitting the ball after it's been thrown to him.
This little peanut will do anything it takes to watch TV.
Not only posting up, Kevin has been learning to sit up more on his own. He still falls over but you can see him trying to counter it. Also, he is definitely more alert these days, he is beginning to know his surroundings. When he gets near his pack-n-play he lets out a cry, but only until the binky gets inserted into his mouth.
We have moved him to #2 size bottle nipples, so he is finally downing that 3.5 -4oz bottle in no time now. Our kids have not been big eaters.
This is where he sleeps at home and how he does it. As soon as he wakes up only 1 time at night we can move him into Nicks room where the crib is. Right now he wakes 2-3 times.
Superman
He loves to eat his feet.
Cousin Declan, Nick and Cousin Cormac at the Kane County Cougars baseball team.
They surprisingly all made it to the 8th inning with about roughly 5 trips out of their seats.
Kevin slept most of the game.
A little water fight later on.
Shocking me, Nick made a painted butterfly all on his own!
They are moving to Arizona and will be dearly missed. Nick and Emily had one last playtime together.
Too cute!
-He's making sounds-
Kevin's favorite things are his hands. He enjoys folding them up and then banging himself in the face. His 2nd favorite things are his feet, he loves putting them in his mouth.
Nick has been great with going on the potty this week. No accidents, just one big "drip".
Also, he has yet to understand the concept of being quiet when he's around Kevin. Nine times out of ten Kevin gets awaken by Nick.
