Moo, Oink, Baaa, Quack...
This weekend we joined Todd, Jen and Declan at the Cosley Zoo. As you can see from the photos Nicholas was ecstatic. He never opened his eyes until we were leaving, but it was nice to get outside.

Day by day
Thursday we took Nicholas out once again, this time to Lindsey's office. Nicholas got to meet most of mommies coworkers along with Uncle Randy. After that he slept quietly as we ate lunch at the Patio.
Later in the day Grandpa Polzin stopped over to see him. Then Nicholas slept for his longest stretch ever. 6:40 to 11:40.....then up for a couple hours. Along with 3 additional wake ups.
Today we just picked up around the house as he slept. Grandma Polzin was going to make a trip out but had to cancel because she was watching Max and he was sick. We did make it out for a nice walk.
Meanwhile here is a video of Nicholas during "Tummy Time", a necessary task that increases the neck muscles.

OLAY, OLAY OLAY OLAY...OLAY, OLAY
I forgot to mention Nicholas started taking the bottle over the weekend. We are working that in every other day so that he is prepared for when mommy goes back to work. So far he has taken it cold and warm, he doesn't seem to mind.
With that news, he is currently rejecting any and all pacifiers...all six of them. So we have had to find other ways to calm him. One evening his cry reminded me of the soccer theme song. You've heard it, OLAY, OLAY OLAY OLAY...OLAY OLAY. We'll I began reciting it to him in a loud manner and then after time to a quite tone. Amazingly days later and many screams turned calm, it works. Occasionally it has even put him from a crazy cry session, to sleep. Not sure which one will stop working first, our voice or the gimmick.
Today we took our never before used stroller out and wheeled our newborn off to my(Tims) office. We were greeted by an excited group of coworkers ready to meet Nicholas. We were there 45 minutes and of course he wanted to be nursed, a diaper change along with a change of peed on clothes.
Feeling confident Lindsey was hungry for dinner so we ate outside at Chipotle. Nicholas slept the whole time.
One of his new favorite positions.

PS. Comments are welcome.

4 Generations
Nicholas was able to meet his Great Grandma over the weekend. It was a great opportunity for a 4 generations photo.
We had a few guest over the weekend (pictures are in the album). It was nice to see them all, as it is all guests.
Nicholas has been good with being in his room and although every night is different sleep, he's doing well. (Lindsey may agree or disagree)

2 Steps Forward, 1 Step Back
Friday night we felt Nicholas was ready to be put into his very own bedroom crib for the night. There was no reason to keep him in the bassinet anymore. Two nights later, it has worked out well. We joke that he's growing up to fast.
The bad news is, he is more fussy lately, usually between 12-6am.
I(Tim) went to church today and was welcomed with warm congratulations. I had a few pictures with me for them to look at. The bulletin mentioned the birth announcement and had a rose for Nicholas at the alter. (Click the photo to make larger)

Another great, normal baby sleeping night. Up 3 times, but Lindsey took care of him then and I just put him back in the bassinet when it was time.
As for diapers, that's another story, he is flying through these, after some changes he dirties them 10 seconds later.
Just as a precaution we took Nicholas to the doctor today for them to see his birthmark on his head. It appeared to be changing, turns out it was coincidental that the head plates are in the same place as the mark. They told us not to worry for now.
On a fun note, while Nicholas was on his stomach for the doctor, he was lifting up his head and turning it right to left. "Wow, he's really showing off" said the Doc. "Most one week old babies cannot do that". :) That's my boy!!!

He has an Innie
A few short days later his umbilical cord has fallen off. Turns out he has an innie, just like his father.
After days of sleeping during the day, and being awake at night, a switch flipped. But was it just a tease? Before that he occasionally had 27 minute naps in the middle of the night. Sunday night he was up for the most part of 12:30-5am. Last night, he went down at midnight and woke 4 hours later, followed by two more two our sleep/nursing sessions. Will we get a repeat tonight?

First bath and first doctors visit
Monday we went for his first doctors visit. We were shocked to learn he's been alive for 5 days already.
When we left the hospital Friday he was down to 8lbs 7 ounces. The doctors said that was normal. We received good news when they weighed him today and he was 8lbs. 7 ounces, and 21.5 inches big. (that's .5" bigger than a week ago).
With those measurements, that puts him in the 95th percent tile for weight and 90th for height. We were very pleased of the growth. Nicholas also received his Hepatitis B shot.

Nicholas Anton Polzin birth day.
The baby was stuck because he was coming out face up instead of face down like they are suppose to. They did a few tricks that actually flipped the baby over. 2 hours of pushing, 1hr and 15 min of which was when he was stuck. Once flipped over, 40 minutes and he was out.
I'll spare you details but during the most intense parts of the labor, I was holding up her body and head with my left arm. My right arm was hold up the right leg, there is no 50 yard line, I was in the touchdown zone and could see everything. I'd look down to see the progress, then look up to see the White Sox game on tv. It was perfect.
Lindsey told me by 8am that during labor, I wasn't to touch my phone. I complied. Sent out texts to my family letting them know what was going down. Sorry I couldn't tell you all more.
When the head and body came out, I was so anxious to see what kind of baby we had, I first saw the cord, nope that's not it, then looked farther down, and damn his legs are in the way...the doctors then rolled him when i saw the coolest thing, his package. I shouted out, "Lindsey, its a BOY!" "It is? she replied" I looked back to confirm, then back to her, "YES". It was awesome.
So please let me introduce
Nicholas Anton Polzin. Born 5/13/09 @ 12:05pm, 9lbs 3 ounces and 21 inches long. 10 fingers, 10 toes. Perfect.
